Not sure if I can describe what I did, but I'll try.

First I copied the background layer and used Warp to pull the corners in toward the center. Then I copied the warped layer and rotated that and blended it with difference. I merged those two layers (not the original background layer) and copied the merged layer and enlarged it, and rotated and blended with difference. That larger layer was put on the bottom of the layer stack, just above the background. Then I duped the background layer (unwarped), rotated it and blended it with difference.
