Nicely done and deserved a high score.

I'm not surprised it fared poorly at the hands of the voters, but the image is a significant accomplishment, approaching a sort of offhand, unembellished perfection. And those EYES! The image makes me think of a kinder, gentler Diane Arbus...

One of my top picks in the challenge.

A simple and effective portrait. The expression on his face makes the shot.

I never think to capture my boys with a serious look on their faces. This really works well here.

In my top five. Great portrait.

Outstanding, the one raised brow on an otherwise innocent face.

What a great expression. A nice "higher" key shot without being too high key. Good use of vignette.

A really wonderful portrait that tells me you've taken the trouble to study the work of great photographers of the past, and to understand what they did any why. This is a gloriously anti-digital photograph, not just because of the distinctly analogue appearance of both the subject and of the 'print', but also because in concept it recalls an era when photographers had to make their impact with simple tools and clear ideas (instead of an oversupply of tools and an absence of ideas, as is the current fashion). In some ways this disarmingly direct portrait is in the style of Diane Arbus, in spite of the fact that this young bloke is rather more conventional-looking than were most of her subjects. Definitely a place for this one on my imaginary wall of 2010 excellence. Thank you.

Nice tones, great portrait. The stone in the b/ground, sets this off.

I love the way you've processed this... and like it all... except I'd like to see the portrait convey something of Callum's personality. Or perhaps you did... if he's a serious sort. (not voting)
