 Clay mask approx 6cm direct flash with tungsten lamp behind.

cropping, levels some cloning of left eye as I could not lose the back of the mask. Some local saturation. The background is smoke from a cigarette. First entry so I expect nothing except but it was fun doing it.

Lighting effect has been lost due to the face-on lighting on the mask. This needed some directional lighting from left only to pick up feature lines but leaving the glow from the eyes to be more atmospheric. This said - I'm not really sure what you're trying to achieve.

I think you can sell prints of this one. Very nice picture but I don't know If I would consider it a macro shot. I think it is cropped/framed perfectly. I like it a lot. OOOPPSS! I just re-read the challenge description and read that it doesn't have to be a macro shot and that a close-up is fine. Bumped up from 8 to 9

Well, not the closest of closeups, but a very compelling composition. I love the foggy, indistinct background, and LOVE the illuminated eyes. Outstanding pic!

Good shot. There is no context to make me think this is anything more than a life-size face mask. However, I will vote assuming that it really is a macro.
