I initially had some ideas going on for this challenge, but upon knowing that this would be in basic editing, there was no way i could pull those ideas off.
Then i thought of this theme park, The Haw Par Villa in Singapore. It features more than 1000 sculptures of various mythological figures in Chinese folklore. When I saw that the eighth card was called "Justice", I immediately thought of the Ten Courts of Hell featured inside the theme park. The entrance was guarded by two figures that resemble the beastly representation of the Devil, so I thought that may also be a good entry. There are also figures of emperors, tigers, and others that may well suit the figures featured in the tarot card deck.
The advantage of taking photos inside a theme park is that all the elements are already there: the subject, the lighting, and the mood. The indoor set also prepares your final photo so that very minimal editing is required in PP. Others may argue that I only took a photo of someone else's artwork, a snapshot of a three-dimensional art, probably. But a lot of photographers have already taken a photo of the various sculptures there, and each has captured his own unique set of images, other have added additional lighting and light modifiers, and at different angles. The objects are there to be photographed, but each photograph can be made as original as the photographer intends it to be.
This is Court Number 1. If i get some time later, I would post the photos of the nine other courts. The folklore behind these ten courts of hell is also a very interesting read.
Had this been advanced editing, i would have selectively removed the blown out reflection of lights from the shiny sculptures, and brightened the face of the judge. |
