 I went into this challenge really wanting to use some color that would jump off the screen. I started with some awesome red fabric from a Halloween costume and wanted a complimentary green color as as my subject. I grabbed a green apple and played with a bunch of stuff but the results were not very compelling. It didn't help that the apple had been sitting in the fridge for a few weeks and wasn't looking it's best. So I set off to the grocery store for some fresh green apples. I ended up buying all sorts of green produce as a safety and came back home and started shooting apples again. That still wasn't working so I said screw it and ate the apples and moved onto the peppers. The thought of a romantic scene hadn't occurred to me at the store but became crystal clear once I started shooting.

Shot in RAW with a single flash off camera at about 9:00 as my sole lighting source.
Post Processing
Changed the white balance and hue to really make the colors pop.
Cropped
Healing brush on a few distracting specs on the fabric.
Resized
Unsharp Mask
Add Border
Save for Web.

Darned clever, and even if the lighting is a bit harsh (as suggested by another commentator), I'm surprised that this did surpass quite a few other entries!

Btw, I keep thinking that pieces of the Jalepenos and the apples would be great tossed together in a salad.
