tipped out box of lego - took half an hour to find a complete man.
put him on white photo paper as a nice surface.
put camera on macro mode
took photo with +1 exposure compensation (hope you don't think its too washed out).

pretty much straight from the camera, just tweaked brightness/contrast and saturation in Photoshop and resized for submission.

I can't believe this scored a 4.5 either... The trolls must have been out in force for that one! LOL This is a very strong photo IMHO. It's got great composition, controlled lighting, good focus & DOF, etc... I agree with glad2badad - Smile & keep having fun! 'Cuz you've got a great eye!

Wow! I can't believe this only scored a 4.5! Of course I'm seeing it out of context as far as the challenge theme goes. I think it's just fine - would make a great stock photo, well, maybe not with trademark issues. :^( Anyway, for what it's worth, I like the DOF and the lighting treatment applied as is.

Smile and keep having fun! ;^)

Shallow depth of field is useful in many shots, but I'm not sure I understand its use here. I got nailed for a similar thing a few challenges back - the more detailed areas (the "shirt") are out of focus, while there isn't a lot to see on the head. For this shot, I'd actually prefer the entire legoman in focus. Other than that, the exposure is nicely done. I'd also like to see the shadows on the bottom accentuated, given the overhead viewpoint - this might be done with some stronger back lighting.

The DOF, focus, camera angle, and the tight crop really make this great. 8

Nice angle and color. More DOF is needed here.

good call on cropping across the head. i'd like to see a little more negative space around the feet and a little less color in the shadow.

Very interesting. The DOF is actually very interesting to me; maybe it's a tad shallow, maybe it isn't. I haven't really decided yet.

I love Legos! Me and my brother still dink around with legos. nice use of DOF, cool lighting, good composition. Wish there weren't nicks on the head. Not sure if people will think of this as an everyday object though.
