Hi, Brian, I don't usually respond to comments but I was wondering about this one - luminous means full of light, how would black help?

It was figurative and goes back to my statement about wanting more mystery. It doesn't really need more black. It's quite perfect. Sorry for the confusion.
Aha! You meant dark rather than black. Sorry, I misunderstood.

Only thing I might have done differently is deliver a heavy dose of dodge & burn to those clouds to get them to pop a bit and hold up their end of the photo, or crop another 40 pixels or so off the top of the image. The lighting on the peaks is quite nice but the clouds are just kind of blah next to them, yet my eyes keep floating up there for some reason. A tighter crop to remove some of those clouds would make this image more dramatic.

Before you consider these points, however, please keep in mind you placed nearly 100 spots ahead of me in this challenge.
Thanks, Scott. I agree with the crop but I would not like to make the clouds more dominant as it would take the focus away from the light on the mountains :)

 Comments Made During the Challenge

I am participating in the "Why a '5' not a '6'?" commenting activity (see recent forum thread). Viewers are asked to leave a comment with some of their votes of '5' letting the photographer know why, for them, it fell short of a vote of '6'. If you have found this comment useful, you may wish to offer some of your own to those images where you vote 5.

Beautifully composed, and technically speaking, it's just about perfect. Why a five and not a six? I feel like I've seen this before. And will see it again. Perhaps if I were a mountain or landscape photographer, I'd feel differently. And maybe that's just it. It's just not my cup of tea. I'm attracted to things with more mystery, more ambiguity. I do like black and white landscapes, but I feel like this one needs more black.

Anyway...
