The cat's body competes with the eyes. If the eyes were brighter it might hold more attention. Cat on a hot tin roof comes to mind.

The cat needs to be in sharper focus.

A bit more contrast and a true black oint would have really helped in this image. I like the framing and the textures, but it feels like Im looking into the sun.
