I am participating in the "Why a '5' not a '6'?" commenting activity (see recent forum thread). Viewers are asked to leave a comment with some of their votes of '5' letting the photographer know why, for them, it fell short of a vote of '6'. If you have found this comment useful, you may wish to offer some of your own to those images where you vote 5.
I imagine I'll be off the curve here and my score of 5 will be lower than your average. I suppose that's an admission that it is perhaps worth more. As a small niggle, the horizon isn't horizontal - that always bothers me a little; but more than that, this sort of sunset scene always leaves me a bit cold. You're right that twisty looking cloud is interesting and your processing serves it well but I'm someone who likes to see a bit more story in images. That isn't to say I don't score landscapes highly; often I do but they tend to be stunningly done with a very strong sense of depth - the flatness of the sea and the distant horizon doesn't give you much of a chance to show perspective. |

when you have something this simple and dramatic at the same time, watch out for distracting things. ex. the two black things in the bottom left corner. Just be aware of that.
Colors are really good! nice job & good luck :) |
