My schedule is really tight...this was the only idea I could come up.

Toy pony shot in my backyard.

[Apr. 5th, 2011 12:12:52 PM]

First of all, I like my photo. I have looked at it multiple times and I still like it. I would not change anything about it...

The funny thing is my entry into the Disassembled Challenge is doing much better and clearly has some much needed improvements...so confused.

I'm disappointed in the score I have received so far. Personally I feel my image deserves a much higher vote. While I don't think that it is the best...it is not deserving of a 4.8.

This image made me laugh. The first think I thought of was "wow, they got a pigmy-horse the size of a mouse! How aloof!" and then I noticing the title realised what it was.
The DOF here is lovely. It really makes the background and foreground soft with intermittent and interesting speckles of detail dotted that entertain the eye when it wanders towards these areas. It really reinforces making the horse the focal point of the image. As does the colour contrast.
I like the crop, and the stance of the horse makes me think it's cantering over to the higher grasses on the left hand side. It has a stern stare going on too.
I really like this image. I can't think of why this isn't scoring well. As I said last night I gave it a 7. Perhaps it's the foreground?
Maybe the horse could have done with some isolated sharpening? If there was nice coat detail (like seeing hairs or something) I think it would score much better. This is probably beyond your control though because surely the small horse would have tiny hairs. It's the only thing I can think of that'd make me score it higher I'm afraid.

I suppose a good way to gauge how it'll be received is to look at that what DPC loves the most competition. If a style did well in that it'll probably do well in other competitions. This might just be the type of shot that won't do well unfortunately.

very cute, good dof with definition. I like the blurries at the fron that give the rest perspective. It says something to me and that's important ;) Good contrast in the tonal range.

Just a wee bit on the quirky side. I get called quirky all the time, so I can't tell you if that's a good thing or a bad thing... Nice shallow DOF, though!
