@james yes you're right that's ice - i used my ipad as a backlight (very useful for macro, i'll tell you!) and fine tuned the exposure to where i like it... but you're also right in that it needs something... thanks!

I like the high-key look, there's still plenty of contrast, although I do wish that the rim of the glass wasn't as blown out.

I'm not sure what the object in the shot glass is... It looks like ice, but it has a strangely unidentifiable shape to it, almost like the pipes in super mario bros.

overall it's not a bad shot, but lacks the huge visual punch/greater meaning that would take this to the next level.
