My theme is flower abstracts. I'm still trying to work out what makes it abstract. And also how to create some kind of emotional impact with a flower as a subject. The difference between a "field guide" comp & an abstract is mostly in the crop & it's the crop & camera angle that create emotional impact, or at least that's my thinking right now.

I got the peonies from a neighbor's garden, and I'm using window light. Working indoors I can get camera angles and lighting angles I would never get outdoors.

I think you have to get closer (or more crop) to make it more abstract. Still, it's a wonderful colored flower.

Nice colours and good lighting.

I agree that it's not quite an abstract to me. But I really like it.

I think a tighter crop can make it less recognizable as a flower, and maybe more of an abstract.

Hmm, I don't really see this as an abstract, even though I often do see abstracts in perfectly recognizable subjects. I love the image, so the emotional response is there. Btw, peonies are one of my most favourite flowers.
