Focus seems to be on the leaf rather than the bug ...

Depth of field is good but the focus has drifted of to the left slightly giving an out of focus subject.

It's really oof

The bug is more out of focus (i'm sure you know that) than the leaf.

Getting it in flight is undeniably amazing, but as a photo it still has the basic problem of the main subject being out of focus

It's very nice to see an insect in flight in your macro shot. It's too bad the focus is on the leaf instead of the fly. You did a good job though - I tried and tried to get a flying bug and found it totally impossible to focus on one!

Excellent opportunity marred by the wonders of auto focus. Too bad AF chose to see the leaf vs the fly.

Good attempt at a really hard shot. Sharp focus on the bug would have made it a 10 for me.

your subject is not sharp, the leave is.

The fly looks overexposed and this shot isn't in focus.

i know these things are nigh on impossible to stage properly as it all happens in a blink of an eye, its just a shame that the predominant focus seems to be on the leaf rather than on the insect itself.

The timing on this shot is incredible!

If it was in focus with better cropping from a lower angle (okay, i'm pushing it), it could have been a 9!

Good job!
