When I first read the challenge, I had this image in my head. I spent the week trying to think where I could get a bonsai tree. On the last day that I could take photos, I still didn't have a tree, so I built one.
I drilled holes in a stick from a plum tree that I found, and inserted twiggs with small leaves .... And Bonsai!!!!
Took a caserol dish, filled it with sand, and covered it with moss.
The lighting was achieved by Painting with a desktop halogen lamp shielded to limit the lighted area.
The only change here is Levels & sharpen.

Terrific image! Great finish (although I thought it would place higher). Very well conceived and executed shot.

Congratulations on your 13th place finish. A most charming image, almost magical and whimsical.

i liked this one the best ... it has such a zen-quality ... thought it deserved a ribbon ... also pretty good for a fake bonsai ;-)

Nice composition. The black background really accentuates the green.

Good lighting and color...

I'm sure others will say that you should have cropped more of the black away, but I think it helps with the concept that the plant is desiring to grow...

Great photo. love the composition and lighting - but there is no size reference to tell me this is any smaller than real life, and that's what the challenge is all about. 4

Nicely isolated within the frame and nice use of negative space to create more of a sense of the scale. Some might wonder how, with nothing else in the frame, it's obvious that your subject is miniaturised but the size of the leaves compared to trunk/ branches and also the style of the container are both very strongly recognisable to any bonsai fan. 9

The Bonsi is a mini tree but I felt you didn't meet the rules of the challenge. There is nothing in the background to compare it too.

I was going to enter the same thing...It's real..and a true subject...would have been perfect if the lighting around the bottom of the planter was gone.
