Photograph Information Photographer's Comments
Challenge: Miniature (Basic Editing I)
Camera: Olympus C-310Z
Location: Baerschwil, Switzerland
Date: Aug 3, 2004
Aperture: f/2.9
ISO: 50
Shutter: 0.00625
Galleries: Abstract, Studio
Date Uploaded: Aug 3, 2004

This pic was taken using natural light coming through the window, 2 sheets of paper were used, one as is obvious and the other curled at the rear to give a slight shadow at the top of the pic.
After breaking the lead in the mini pencil I cut a small needle in half and forced the cut then into the mini pencil itself and allowing me to push the sharp end through the paper into the wooden surface beneath.
I focused the camera on the broken tip, held the settings with a 'half-press', repositioned the view a little and took the pic.
I hope that you like it :)

How did you get the pencil to stand up?

This picture just doesn't do anything for me. First thought it didn't meet the challenge until I realize the pencil in the background (though blurry) is one on the fat oversized ones. The picture is also too dark.

Putting the big crayon closer to the 'focused' area could have done a bit better effect. Maybe at some 'cool' angle.
I love the line 'vanishing' in the corner. It's just the swiss emblemas on the big one that is a bit scarry :)

Good title. Why not skip the bigger pencil?
