 This kayaker was approximately half way across the lake when I grabbed with photo at 400mm. I got lucky in that he just turned slightly into the sun and started to really pick up his pace which is what caused the paddle to pick up the water.

I like how this turned out, but I have no idea what to expect from this challenge. It's kind of a hard to define challenge that seemingly could have a lot of entries that look closer than they really are, and the whole distance thing is pretty subjective.

FYI to anyone wondering about distance, I did an approximation and this kayak is around 0.4 miles (0.65 km) away. This is was 400 mm of focal length does to distant subjects. The best way to see that he is far away it to notice the compression in the scene. Look at how few of the trees you can see and imagine if this were closer with a shorter focal length and how much of the background you would see then.

quite like the motion in the picture but somehow the background appears to be a bit too smoggy

A familiar scene for this challenge - a boat on the water. The toning is nice and warm, and the paddle was just at the right spot to add interest, including the weed attachment. The distant shore adds to the layering effect and probably could have worked better without the glimpses of the sky. A nice serene mood.
