This challenge taught me more than I thought it would. I figured the hardest part would be finding a good subject, since I always have that issue. This was a problem for me with this challenge, but it was made more difficult by finding a good quality way to photograph the subject. Either my photos were too flat, not detailed enough, or just uninteresting. Then I remembered focus stacking, and this image opened up for me. With using extension tubes, I need the stacking to provide a deep enough depth of field that it becomes interesting and fulfilling.
I also learned that while stacking using natural light, it's best to go manual and choose the exposure values yourself. Light changes quickly when clouds are involved, so after picking the shutter/aperture, you need to move fast to get all of the frames.
Post Processing:
* Increase Exposure
* Decrease black point
* Increase saturation and vibrancy
* Combine 6 images in ZereneStacker
* Crop
* White Balance
* Increase black point
* Increase contrast, definition, and saturation of the shell
* Levels
* Export as TIFF
* Resize
* Sharpen Edges
* Save as JPEG |

Like the textures and patterns here. I might have composed it differently; just seems sort of static in the middle from this perspective. |

cropped tighter would have been more dramatic |

This would be much better with a different background that isn't so similar in color to the subject. |
