Back to the Dedham Vale project ... aside from the misty shots this is exactly the kind of thing I've been after. I rather think it may be too subtle in its intentions for dpc, but I have a poor record of second guessing the voters recently.
As I regularly do, I shot this quite heavily under-exposed - I maintain that, as with all digital media, it is more important to have all the information recorded than to have it looking good immediately - you can never recover burnt out areas, whatever you do.
An enormous amount of editing here - but I would say it is photographically honest editing, if you like. Created a mask image to isloate the sky, then darkened it to gring it in line with the rest of the image. Selected and layered the foreground also to darken it. Added and blue-through-transparent-through-green raster layer, using colours selected from the image, at 16% blend to give the blues and greens some punch. That blend seems very low, but I think the thumbnail shows the imapct of that more than the 640-pixel image. The beginning mist hadn't showed up on the capture, so again made some selections, created a layer from them, brightened and lowered contrast there, and blended that at around 44% to put it back. Somewhere in there there was a combination process of levels and curves to bring the image up to display brightness and clarity. The command history tells me there's only 118 edits ... feels like more. 9 layers though. After re-sizing, a touch of UAM at 0.6/80/5, and then a selection of the top section of frame, feathered at around 25 pixels, and darkened slightly to give the grad. ND effect.
I like it very much - it's one of the more careful images I've submitted. I hope it does as well as I like it, but I fear it will not. |

This is a very nice scenery. I would crop it with less sky. (8) |

Lovely colors, and I particularly like the misty look near the water! It would have been great if you could have captured this a bit wider. It could also be cropped a little at the top--the green is the star here! |

The cool colors here are exquisite and the landscape is absolutely beautiful. Very painterly. I don't really believe this meets the challenge, but I won't penalize you as this is so gorgeous. |

Nice landscape which would probably convert well to oils |

I'd like to see the cropping tighter on top, and a bit tighter on the left to maintain aspect ratio. The vast sky draws my eye away from the river and trees which are otherwise beautiful subjects. |

Great wide angle - good detail on the trees. It looks almost like a painting - I don't know how you did it, but I like it! |
