Well, that's the last time I do THAT!!

This was the idea I wanted to shoot all week, but didn't get around to. Then I remembered we were having a family thing on Sunday afternoon in San Clemente (near the beach), so I thought: perfect! Then we got in the car and the traffic was HORRID. We got there a few minutes before sunset. I ran in, I waved hello, then rudely ran out towards the beach, dragging my nephew-in-law with me. The beach/light/sky/water/everything was perfect and beautiful. Took a bunch of shots. Run back, and socialize a bit, although time is ticking. By now it's about 8:30, but as everyone had gone back into the house, I could now fired up my laptop (which I'd brought with me, just in case...LOL!), did some quick editing while also carrying on small talk with our (neglected by me) hosts. Even had WIFI at my disposal to connect! But I kept screwing up the resizing and DPC was acting slow (it being near rollover and I'm sure I wasn't the only one uploading at the last minute...). Took three tries, but finally got it uploaded with about 4 minutes to spare. Then I get home and see that giant PIMPLE in the middle of the sky, where the sun should be...

Live and learn.

Incidentally, this is my first challenge with my new camera and new lens. I LOVE that lens!!!!

Voters are being incredibly generous for this horribly flawed image. This is what it was SUPPOSED to look like:

There's a lot to like here, but the rendering of the sun is hideous. You could have just let it blow out and that would have been OK...

Um, not sure what happened to the sun there? It's now a ball of grey?

I absolutely love this photo. However the person in the frame subtracts so much of the emotion for me. Had it simply been the water alone, I would have rated this photograph quite a bit higher. *6*

When processing, make sure to watch out for strange colors near the sun. See those grey circles? Those likely came from bumping up recovery or highlights too much.

the color waves off the sun are distracting from an otherwise stunning picture
