The Valley of Unrest
by Edgar Allan Poe
(published 1845)
Once it smiled a silent dell
Where the people did not dwell;
They had gone unto the wars,
Trusting to the mild-eyed stars,
Nightly, from their azure towers,
To keep watch above the flowers,
In the midst of which all day
The red sun-light lazily lay.
Now each visitor shall confess
The sad valley's restlessness.
Nothing there is motionless --
Nothing save the airs that brood
Over the magic solitude.
Ah, by no wind are stirred those trees
That palpitate like the chill seas
Around the misty Hebrides!
Ah, by no wind those clouds are driven
That rustle through the unquiet Heaven
Uneasily, from morn till even,
Over the violets there that lie
In myriad types of the human eye --
Over the lilies there that wave
And weep above a nameless grave!
They wave: -- from out their fragrant tops
Eternal dews come down in drops.
They weep: -- from off their delicate stems
Perennial tears descend in gems.

Tree debarked so that it would die, but the tree is fighting back. |

loved your image - so congrats on all the bling, well deserved!
(and thanks for a nice comment on my entry... the dress was indeed not the best fit for the story, I'd prefer something very simple, but we went with what we had :)) |

Lovely. One of the most beautiful B&W abstracts I've seen for ages. Here's an 'Order of the Thumb' for you. Don't bother ducking: I'm afraid there's no escaping it.

I like this image. The texture and contrast appeal to me, and I like the way I can interpret different areas of the image in varying ways. However, it seems shoehorned into the challenge. The only thing that ties the image to the challenge is the title. So, good image but I took off a couple of points for the shoehorn. |

A cascading collection of wonderfulness, examining this or taking it in with one glance, both leave me with the same great feeling. |

It's like a Rorschach image. Everyone should say what they see in order to reveal their deep dark dirty innards. :oD I like it! |
