Hand-held shot, part of a counter for a 'lotto' outlet in Leeston. One of only three Neon signs in town.
I got some weird looks when I wandered up to take a photo of part of the counter, and explaining it was almost as odd. I think Bill & Sue (The shop owners) think I'm nuts. OK, they think I'm _more_ nuts now. :-).
Editing was crop, slight curves adjustment, scale and then light USM. Using gimp. I didn't touch the saturation, the colours are out of the camera.
The background is shiny plastic/perspex of some kind, so I had to move about quite a bit to get a reflection-less shot. I still picked up some minor ones in the bottom left, and the Yellow tube shows up the dust something cronic, but it's basic editing, and I'm not going back with a rag to clean their Neon lights for them!
Took the shot with -2 stops compenstation to get it looking right, could possibly have done with -2.5 or .3, but I wasn't going to fiddle about with manual settings when Sue was all but ready to call the men in white coats. :-).
This is a bit of a back to basics shot, be interesting to see how well 'minimal' does in a challenge that's bound to be full of complex, colourful photos. |

| Nice picture. I like the parallel lines. Would have been very interesting if you had cropped the bottom left part of the neons so we did not see the way it's fixed. |

| Its weired but I feel movement with this static shot, but perhaps that is the colour! vibrant, nice composition! |
