a few go up before it gets light. they're called the 'dawn patrol' and they check out the winds up there and report back. i think they wait for some light so that they can see where they're going, especially when there are hundreds going up at the same time. it's also nice for the people watching to be able to see better. you should make the trip. it's quite spectacular!

really want to go to one of those i heard it's really pretty with all the balloons getting ready. but someone said they don't launch till the sun is up...weird
