HoHum, if this does well I can't wait to see the discussions afterward. Mind you that would be a suprise.
I did mention in a previous thread that neon isn't easy to come by in small Hertfordshire towns, yet I wanted to enter. Now I did not want to go and shoot Piccadilly Circus et al, as I have been there many times in my life, and quite frankly it bores me, and the pictures bore me.
However, all the lights of Vegas would be enjoyable to shoot :D I had a kind of vision of a film type photograph, sort of holding an Oceans Eleven type vibe to it.
But as much as I love DPC I am not going to travel to Vegas for a photo shoot (not from the UK). But still I wanted to shoot my idea.
My first idea was to have someone dressed in a suit and have the neon reflecting off his sunglasses, but that as too hard with the screen.
So..I seeked, found and downloaded a suitable image from the Internet and stretched it over my monitor.
My room was fully blacked out during the day, thanks to black fabric being placed over the windows, and some helpful Wimbledon Tennis Club towels filling the gaps :D.
Camera was set on a tripod and set to timer mode - 10 seconds whilst I manually focused and placed my hands and glasses.
The idea is that it's like a still from a movie - some player (be it the poker or women type) is just coming up to his intended location for the night and is about to put on his glasses. At that point cue the music and boom away we go - daddy cool. Man I can see it already hehe.
I kept it slightly longer in width and used a black frame to further enhance the film vibe.
A very long winded explanation, but I want people to see this was about vision and finding a way to achieve my vision. It is a 100% photograph in my book, although I do expect comments referring it as otherwise.
Hope you like the final image anyway.
Editing invloved a little levels to darken the image, and some NI to soften the noise that comes with shooting this subject.
Edit: I ahve looked at this many times since submission a few hours ago, and think it's my proudest photo to date, becasue I didn't go to vegas, but I did take the photo - kind of weird.
Cheers

You know what? I thought you really went to vegas! :P
Anyways, I liked the idea here. The glasses add a nice perspective and make this shot!
I gave it an 8 and i'm surprised to see it way down here.

Nice effect. Putting on the sun glasses because the sign is too bright. |
