Photographer’s Notes
I spent the weekend at Aviation Nation, the air show put on by the Air Force at Nellis AFB in Las Vegas, Nevada. It’s a thank you gesture to the people of Las Vegas for putting up with the noise of an active duty air base. And it’s terrific.
I spent the first day outside the fence at the end of the runway. All these great aircraft land about 50 feet over our heads and it’s a unique view of these planes. Then I spent the next day inside the fence at the Air Force Thunderbirds chalet right on the flight line.
Talk about a ringside seat and with a few bonuses.
Miss Nevada was there and we chatted for about 20 minutes about cameras and photography. She just got her first DSLR and was curious about my 70-200 mm lens, about my Nikon D3. Very bright girl, very pretty … it’s probably just ego but I want to believe she was hitting on me (old enough to be her grandfather) but in truth she was just being pleasant and was actually hitting on my camera.
The cast of Jersey Boys sang the National Anthem to start the show and afterwards spent the show at the chalet. Nice people. Very talented! Among the most attractive people I’ve seen in a long time and approachable in this private setting.
Oh, and did I mention the airshow. They flew the B-1 and B-2 bombers, a rare treat. And they flew a vintage MiG and a F-86 Sabre. We saw some great fast movers and, of course, the Thunderbirds.
It will take days to wipe the grin off my face!!!
