So this may not meet the challenge in the conventional sense... but these two shapes seemed to go well together. I was shooting for the metal challenge (the vase is a metal vase from Afghanistan) and realized that the shape of the vase echoed the shape of the cat. In other words, things that just seem to go well together...
Of course, it would have been a lot smarter to shoot salt and pepper, or cream and sugar, or ... well, you get the idea!
No expert editing here. A preset in Nik Silver Efex, complete with the frame it adds. Didn't even crop, I don't think.

Yes, I knew better. I always have hope....
Ha! (I'm not very bright...)
Congrats to my WPL teammates who had four in the top ten of this challenge, including the blue and red ribbons. They rock!
Ah. I thought for sure I'd straightened this so the vase was vertical, but apparently that was all in my head (or in a version I didn't keep) since this is, indeed, crooked! I'm quite certain that accounts for the very low score. Had it been straight, I think it would have been a contender, don't you? |

Well here I am rereviewing some of my favorite shots in anticipation of our visit this week. I gave this a 6 originally but only because I'm lazy and limit my initial votes to 6 or less, which means you got my best vote and in this case I didn't revisit for more definitive evaluation. This is a beautiful compositional study and quite an amazing demonstration of a natural eye (since you are not trained in such stuff as I am). There is an element of visual excitement that is generated by the critically judged relationship of spaces and objects which here is exemplified by the quantity of space between the vase and the cat and (most obviously) by the imitative curves of the two - mockingly in the case of the cat. The comp and processing are elegent and worthy of a more discriminating croud. |

They almost fit like a glove, what a find, ... sorry, this should have scored higher! |

Grand, almost appears to be getting high. What are storing in that vase? |

Intriguing image, and a different take compared with most entries. I'd have loved it even more if the cat was in focus too. |

There is something incredibly iconic and 1930's about this image, Deb. And it makes me smile because kitty is certain some sort of buxom genie came out of there once, and he's going to wait her out. I adore when cats sit like that, paws touching, with tail curled around the bottom. |
