I thought of a number of ideas for this challenge, but few of them I had time for. One idea kept sticking out though, photographing a mini fiber optic night light in an interesting way. I spent some time one night, and ended up with zero shots I liked. So the night of rollover I racked my brain for how I could make this simple little device interesting to the viewers. I then had the idea to not concentrate on the ends of the fibers, but rather the center.
Then came the adjustments. I must have taken about 30 shots of the center of this night light. Different focus points, exposure amounts, and especially depth of field. Turned out that the shot I liked best had a aperture of f/32! This provided long strands in focus, and end points as relatively small dots. To me, this effect is really cool.
I can see this image either doing fairly well, or having the bottom fall out of it. It feels like this will be a love it or hate it type of images, let's just hope the voters love it a little more than they hate it.

* Increase definition
* Decrease saturation with higher vibrancy
* Curves to really increase the mid tones and some highlights (this is what really made the fiery effect pop)
* Levels
* Highlights and Shadows
* Topaz DeNoise
* Export as TIFF
* Resize
* Sharpen Edges
* Save as JPEG |
