I'm still a bit surprised at myself for entering this challenge at all, especially with a self portrait, but I decided I might as well take the plunge and add myself to the ranks of the other "real" women who've bared themselves for the sake of advancing their skill. I know there'll be an abundance of perfection to compete with, so I'll be happy if I manage to stay over 4 - (hoping).

I had another picture that I considered entering, which went in the complete opposite direction, but I really like this one better, and I felt it was more positive to women... who tend to be very focused on the popular notions of aesthetic beauty, and overly critical of themselves. There's nothing wrong with being comfortable in your own skin. I hope others will enter similarly themed photographs.

I'm expecting people to not like the framing of it, although the close, partial view was intentional - I wanted it border on the abstract - and I expect complaints about the blurry right hand. That wasn't intentional, but I like the photo too much to do away with it for a minor DOF problem. The lighting's also not perfect, but it's the best I could do.

Editing: Cropped and resized to cut out a bit of clothing and the edge of my black backdrop (a skirt hanging from the door), ran through Neat Image and did some spot editing to smooth out goose bumps and remove a scratch, hue/saturation, curves, levels, and sharpening, which was faded.

I like the photo and your comments. Too many women are caught up in being skinny like they see in the media. Beauty is inside and it shines brightly in you. Curves are what women are meant to have.

This reminds me of a Renaissance style painting. Well, if you cropped it right above the hands :)

You sell yourself short. You're curves are awesome.

Love the expression and beautiful skin tones. Not crazy about the nails, but I understand. I'd have cropped right above them and you'd still have some of the decouletage - and more concentration on the face and not the bright of the fingernails. Good for you, girl.

I'm with ya - way to get out there and show yourself!!!!

You entirely missed the point. The photo displays almost everything that is supposed to be despised by women about ourselves - too much weight, veins, uneven skin tone - in a straight forward, simplistic manner, without diminishing the subject (I do not for the life of me understand how people can be the "fat one" on diet pill commercials and such).

Some people get it, I guess, and some don't.

I like the idea and message in this photo. I think a B&W would have looked good to even out the skin tones, or desaturate the greens/yellows?. Gave it a 7, keep it up...

best shot of this challenge, by far...congrats

Thanks for all of the great comments... I actually didn't notice the yellow at all until after it was mentioned. I would assume it's due to a mixture of bad lighting and my own uneven skin tone. I'm surprised this ended up doing as well as it did, though! :)

Your title ties this shot together very nicely. I really like the shot. It's unique photographically and it also has a deeper idea to it than simply to present a beautiful woman. The expression and hair in her face work well also. My only complaint is that the center of the shot seems to have a sort of yellow hue to it.

This has style. I like how the model's modesty is conveyed by her half hidden face and averted eye. I like the contrast between her milky skin, and her dark hair and painted fingernals. The tight crop works well to emphasize these elements.

This is one of the Wow pics from this challenge. Everything about it is absolutely beautiful - the soft focus, the pose, the model, everything. Very nice shot!

Like the image and idea.
Somehow the skin seems to be a little yellow in the middle, I'm sure some sort of post processing woud get rid of this. Curves perhaps?? ;-)
Probably loads of comments about the tight cropping, but I think it makes the picture interesting.

Nice image and nicely done The light seems a bit yellowish and a bit harsh on the right side If you had darkened the image it may reduce that
Your model has a very pretty face and Nice skin I am not a man but no doubt the men will love what your holding! LOL! I am pleased you like your curves

Great composition, wonderful title. Other than the greenish tint in the middle, an excellent shot. I'm not sure what is causing it, maybe the flash reflecting your hair. Might be my monitor. 9

emotionaly quite evocative, great treatment...technicaly, I find that the shoulder is a bit overexposed.

Returning for comments.
This is very nice, both sensual and sexy and playful. The nails help the composition and the askance glance with those beautiful eyes makes this image very pleasing. Bumping to 7

your model is very pretty, lovely eyes and hair, I think I would have liked to have seen less breast, perhaps more shoulder, or maybe use the arms/hands in a different way

Lighting is a little harsh on the shoulder...I don̢۪t like her eye being half cropped out. I love the look of her lips and the way her hair is falling....and I think matching nail and lip colour would have been nice.

I find myself wishing this wasn't cropped so tight. She looks to be a beautiful model with her dark hair, creamy fair skin, and curvy voluptuous figure. The red fingernails also add a beautiful touch of color.

However, to me this image seems to be too focused on how large her breasts are when I think there might have been more effective ways to photograph her beauty. The pose feels a little too "Playboy" to me. With images like this, I wonder how large the discrepancy between women voters and male voters is. I'm willing to bet it speaks louder to the latter group. ;)

nice curves, nice hair, nice face, I like her expression. The light is nice and soft but I do see some greenish tints on her body, especially close to her hair. I find the placement of her hands and the fact that they push her breasts out of shape less attractive. Good cropping

I love this crop! and the Veronica Lake hair style. Downside? to me the highlights look a bit blown. Nice shot.

nice softness of the skin, but a little tacky for me in subject at poise. Bright red nails and holding ones own breasts doesn't cut the quality mustard in my world of taste - but I expect it will in many others. Probably Americans lol. Joke.

Being serious - I can see the qualities in photographic terms, but the pose just takes away from that in my opinion.

Well done for filling the frame though - not many people do that and I think it makes for a very strong composition.

Not really sure why this photo needs that title... it implies that she wasn't at peace with her curves? Or that maybe she shouldn't be? At any rate, this is a good portrait, the red fingernails really add to the shot. The black toussled hair works well here. Nicely composed. You do have some burnt out highlights on the skin... but rather than taking down the exposure a tad, I would have lit this more gently so the skin didn't show veins and splotches.

absolutely perfect expression. modest and shy but a little touch of "look at these suckers" or "you think you are ready for these?" I love the soft face, but I would soften up ht efingers too.

really really really impressed by this photo. Love the softness of the facial features and the lighting! tastefully done too! really great job 9 just because i'm not sure about the red nails, personally would have preferred clear or a french manicure to go with the soft look but i know why red was chosen and it does make a decent contrast
