Taken at the US Botanical Gardens in their orchid room. Very dim, patchy light, which happened to illuminate these flowers just enough for me. The DOF was shallow of necessity, but I rather like the bits that ended up in focus, few though they are. Not expecting much scorewise from a dark, shallow flower shot, but this is the type of image I love so in it goes!
PP - did some editing on my new iPad (which I was not good about writing down, but basic light/saturation/noise adjustments and spot sharpening ... I think), then brought it back to the PC and tuned light, etc., again (trusting the calibrated monitor to be more accurate), resized, sharpened, added border. |

This is so dark, the light is so gentle, even minimal. It could be a detail from a Renaissance painting. Red orchids are unusual. They show up well against that dark emerald BG. I don't know why you left all the noise in, but it works for me kind of like extra humidity in the air & makes them even more exotic. Good job! Please accept this Gilded Lily along with my admiration for a beautiful photograph.

Unusual flowers nicely composed with good low key presentation, though I find the white z on the stalk quite distracting but hope you do well with it |

Some ugly black smudges or something all over the image. I think it's due to your processing. |
