Challenge: Hope (Basic Editing I)
Camera: Nikon D100
Location: Batford
Date: Aug 24, 2004
Galleries: Emotive, Black and White
Date Uploaded: Aug 24, 2004

Taken in the wind rain and thunder hence the nice cloud formation - looked like a prize prat.

Editing was channels in monochrome and levels and unsharp mask - a lot of tinkering with channels for the first time in my life.

I like this shot - but much prefered version 2 which i will post afterwards.

Lovely work Jon.
Congrats on your placing.

Man, you're even a darker burner than Heida! lol

I knew this was yours from the dark sky.

Nice job...

Congrats on a top 10 Jonny!

Nice mood with the tones.
Did Heida come over and help? :)

Well Done!

I love this image but I don't really see it having anything to do with hope or success for that matter. Luckily I don't give a rat's ass about the challenge subject. I just vote on what photos I like. I expect this to do very well. 10

This is the great combination of interpretation and execution. The texture of the ground and the sky creates such a mood to the photo. On top of that, the tree and the model are well composed to deliver the theme. Well done!

Excellent, powerful image. Should be in the top 3.

awesome snap

Looks like a Heida.....

Nice lighting created a very emotional image. Well done.

Good photo. The lightning is just right and the man and the tree make the photo work.
08/28/2004 01:06:19 AM
There are beautiful contrasts in the sky in this photo. I also like the idea behind this photo - to me it illustrates hope. Well done.

Perfect - 10

Good photo. It stirs emotion. The b&w is a good choice for this photo.

Striking picture! Great contrast, I like the layers of sky and the texture of the ground. Lots for the eye to do. However, to me it doesn't really convey hope.
08/26/2004 10:28:37 PM
great use of contrast
08/26/2004 09:24:57 PM
Great shot! I love the contrast!

nice, but contrast seems to be pushed a bit far IMHO

the skyscape is extrodinary. i'm not so sure about the guy :S
08/25/2004 06:56:46 PM
Wow, love the image... I know you'll hate me for this, but I just have a hard time fitting the title to the image, otherwise I would score this one really high.
08/25/2004 04:34:09 PM
unbelievablely cool photo...awesome black and white. I wish you just werent going for "hope" here...it seems a "stretch"
08/25/2004 02:19:50 PM
Wow! This feels like a ribbon winner to me. It is obviously a very dramatic image. The silhouettes work well with the dramatic sky. The pose of your model is unexpected and the lighting (especially of his face against the dark sky) is wonderful. I am one of the school of thought that dislikes borders but I try to remain open minded. In this case, the border detracts IMO.

In any event, a fine photo. Congratulations.

Wow...absolutly spectacualr. tecnically flawless
08/25/2004 10:27:33 AM
Original use of theme and of b&w.
08/25/2004 09:15:18 AM
The "feel" of the image could cover a variety of themes as it doesn`t really shout out anything in particular. However, there is no denying the impact and vibrancy of the post processing...particularly impressive given the limitations of the challenge.
Excellent work and with enough linkage to "Hope" to make it successful...9

excellent pic - the whole feeling seems 'right', hard to find anything to criticise, only thing is maybe that the ground looks a little too 'busy'
08/25/2004 03:45:10 AM
I love it. This one deserves a high score
08/25/2004 01:50:07 AM
I do not like challenge titles in the title of pictures.
08/25/2004 01:42:29 AM
Great composition. It looks really grainy, however. I'd like better compression. Also, I like the Jerry Brickhimer tree in the background.
