Photograph Information Photographer's Comments
Challenge: Best of 2011 (Advanced Editing VII)
Camera: Nikon D300
Lens: Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 EX DC HSM for Nikon
Date: May 15, 2011
Aperture: 7.1
ISO: 400
Date Uploaded: Feb 9, 2012

Since a few folks commented on the sand in the foreground- I actually think that the particles were too small and outresolved my lens, as 7.1 @ 10mm should be plenty to maintain depth of field. I felt the same- Had wished they had more detail but couldn't bring it out anymore.

This was taken in Sand Dunes National Park, in Southern Colorado, but I WISH it was the Gobi!

Thanks for all the great comments.

Hey - I'm glad to see this did well in the Best Of Challenge! Love the dichotomy of warm sand and cold snow-topped mountain. Congrats on a good finish!

Quite a scene. Lovely contours, shadows, light and lines. A study in it. Beautiful.

Nice light and composition though I feel a bit more detail in the sand would make the immediate foreground more interesting. Overall very nice though.

Untouched sand, and (most likely) untouched snow, together at once? Very cool. Where is this? Gobi Desert?

Very pretty and a great perspective. I like this exactly the way it is cropped and processed and everything.

a little more detail in the foreground sand would have made this image a killer. it looks a tad blurry there now.
