    Biography: Hi, I'm Dan. The most important thing I can say here is ‘I love photography!’, which I'm guessing everyone else here would say too.

    Along with my love of photography I also love travelling. The two mesh perfectly and have been a driving force in my life since I was a teenager.

    Like most people, I played around with cameras as a kid. I remember only one camera of my childhood, a cheap version of the Kodak Pocket Instamatic. Armed with that and the occasional flash cube I clicked away happily recording days out and holidays. Some years later I picked up a Praktica BC3 and began my love of ‘real’ photography, composing, exposing and developing my own pictures.

    Since becoming an adult, I've been lucky enough to have lived in a number of countries. Throughout this time I've been able to experience many different stories through the lenses of my cameras. The Republic of Ireland gave me an eye for urban spaces and whilst in France I developed a love of the art of street photography. Scotland, and in particular Edinburgh, has so far provided inspiration through its street theatre culture. Combining this with my travel experiences has given me an organic style that has continued to grow.

    Though I am happy to take staged shots I much prefer to work in a looser, more fluid style. In all my pictures my main aim is a picture that is a story, and a definite feel of emotion.

    I greatly enjoy the challenges of landscape photography through the effort that is needed to capture the image but my primary love of photographs are the ones that show people in their environment. I like shots which beg the viewer to investigate the picture and discover what it means to them.

    Since living in Edinburgh I have participated as a photographer at festivals, clubs and sports events. In the past few years I have gained experience organising and leading large groups of photographers for the events I have been asked to cover. I am quite happy covering large and small events alike. My main aim is to be unobtrusive, I generally wish to have no influence over the events that are taking place and I find that this approach leads to the most emotive pictures. I love what I do and I'm always eager to explore new ways to do it.
