This is a beautiful shot, but it would be so much better if you straightened the perspective.

Greetings from the Critique Club:

I like this picture. Although the the subject is not very interesting, I like the different tones of blue. That said, there are some things to improve upon. The crop shows slightly too much sky, and the column at the bottom annoys me a bit. I would either crop it closer, or show a bit more of it. On the other hand, ending the diagonals to the corners of the picture also gives some impact, so maybe crop a tighter to the left and right too.
I do like the reflection of the cloud, but not the reflection of the wire(?) at the bottom. Also the little dab of birds poo in the lower left corner is distracting. I realise that there wasn't much you could do about that in a Basic Editing Challenge, though.
Good picture, but maybe increase the contrast and sat. a bit to show more tones of blue.

Greetings from the Critique Club

Wow, a very moody photo you have here. I can't believe I missed this during voting. There is a very good balance in this picture, dark clouds on the right, opposing the light parts of the land on the left and bottom. The eye follows a smooth curve all over the image, finally resting on the heavy rain at the center.
The colors are very effective too and the high contrast adds to the very surreal feel that was also feel of the film (and do not forget the books). I can almost feel Atreyu coming galloping at me.

Nothing I can add that would raise your score, although perhaps a border might give some slight plus. I might also have got rid of the small blue patch of sky on the right side of the photo. A very slight nitpick though, only because there's just not anything else to comment on :)

Greetings from the Critique Club

I'm so happy to draw this image to critique; I simply love it. The composition is very strong and balanced, with the big tree on the right and the small figure on the left. The colors are wonderful. I especially love the washed out, bright grass, and the very moody, dark sky and tree. It almost looks more like a painting than a photo.
The sky reminds me of the famous Dutch painters in history, like Vermeer and Rembrandt.

If there had to be a point of critique I would think it was the expression on her face. It looks indeed more as if she is having fun than if she is crying for help, although from the challenge it is obvious what your intent was. I also would clone out the dark cloud just to the left of here.

Apparently, not everyone agreed with me, but I still think a 6.29 is way too low a score. But then again, neither Rembrandt or Vermeer were particularly appreciated in their lifetime.

You seem to have the focus on the last string. I think I would prefer it to be on the second.

The motion blur doesn't stand out very well in this picture. That's too bad, because the surroundings would frame the light stripes very well.

I love this image so much. It looks more like a painting than a picture, and I keep coming back to try to find out what I actually see. I do think that this is a tough picture to sell here on DPC though, not everyone is into abstracts.

Greetings from the Critique Club

Usually I like fisheye shots, but this one is abit unbalanced. You decided for a central composition, and while I think that those can be very good, it needs very good attention to pull it off. A central composition means symmetry, either through mirroring or rotation.
Your photo appears to be tilted to the right. The center of the ceiling is not excatly above the center of the entrance, and the walls on the left are taller than the walls on the right. This is a bit strange, because you seem to be positioned straight in fromt of the hallway. However, I think you held your camera at a slight angle towards the right, and with the effect of the fish eye lens, the angle is exaggerated more the further it gets away from the center. That's why the ceiling appears much more out of balance than the hallway.

The colors could do with a bit more saturation, but I do like the lighting in the hallway.

I guess the image meets the challenge, although I think in a very superficial way.

I think more practice with the fisheye lens will improve your scores loads in the future.
