Can't believe I broke my camera. I almost can't breathe. I purchase the adapter for filters for the Nikon 5700 and the guy at the store told me to open the camera and then place the adapter in front of the lens and then push it in by applying some pressure while laying on a table... in the intructions sheet ofr the adapter they said to zoom at the max then press it in. I did both... Dumb me I broke the zoom which is now stuck inside and the camera can't focus anymore (I see a blurred double (read 5 times) vision) but still can take (ugly pictures)... I am devastated. My friend works at the store where I bought the camera and will do everything to have it repaired (at no cost if they can't tell I forced it myself) in the shortest time possible (7-10 days) but still, can't breathe.... Gee I hate myself... I feel so miserable without my camera.

Which adapter was it? The Nikon one I have is threaded (for the telephoto and wide angle). I did see one that is silver and it has a barrel that you can slide in and out. It wasn't the snap on NextPhoto was it? That one is suppose to go on like the lens cap, in that little groove on the front lens element.
Sorry to hear it is broken. I think I would be like you, without breath, but that would be after alot of yelling and screaming...and probably crying. Hope it is still under warranty. Good Luck

I'm so sorry. Your post is painful to read.
I live in fear of the same. My biggest fear is taking my camera on and off the tripod. Danger-danger Will Robinson!!
You can critique during the next 7 days or make lots of comments.
Good luck hope the time flies for you.

I just checked with my insurance agent, (All State) and I'm getting a personal property schedule on my camera added to my homeowners insurance. For $25 a year my new Sony F717 is fully covered against theft, loss, fire, and even breakage from dropping it with no deductible.

i know almost how you feel.. my cam wasn't all that broken, the battery cover broke off, and i held it with tape for like 2 months. Bu then when i finally decided to bring it in to get fixed.. to took more than 5 weeks!.. i'd been going crazy, but i finally got it today.. took so many pics :D i had told myself if i didn't get it by wednesday, that i'd buy the f717 to replace it, since i'm starting to see the advantages of a more manual camera, .. then again, i might get it anyway :)

I feel your pain...The first day I got my current camera, my husband had set it on the counter and when he picked it up again the strap caught one of the drawers in the cabinet, and it hit the floor. I actually took a picture with it right after. His face in the picture is classic....It was a little blurry though. I really hope you can get it fixed for free, that would be awesome. To me it sounds like they should fix it, because the guy at the store was the one who explained the procedure to you. You were just following his orders.... Good luck.

Thanks to you all. Good to have some support. I hardly can imagine spending 7-10 days without it. My friend told me she'll do everything to have it the fastest possible. Of course, I suppose the worst will be I will have to pay for the repair which could be 500$ or so?

Yes it was the NextPhoto adapter. The adapter for the tele and wide is a screw-on thing. The NextPhoto is a snap on but the guy at the photo store insisted so much in the good pressure I had to put on...Gee I'm stupid.

Now I'm sitting here with my *(_?%&% filters and no camera to try them on....

Meanwhile, I suppose I will have to classify all those pictures I never have time to manage.... I have to have it before Easter!!!!!!!!!!!

My new moto will be to have the clerk install the things themselves from now...

Thanks again for your kind words (and good idea about the insurance I will make sure it is covered).

Oh Nathalie...so sorry! I know that sinking feeling, though mine turned out to still work after a fall that fractured my camera in several places. I am just amazed that it still works with it's bumps and bruises.
Hope you get it back soon and it doesn't cost you too much.

Dang...I have a backup DC4800, I woulda sold ya. Lots of accessories and cheap too. (C: Little too late I guess.
Anyone know of an appropriate place to post a camera for sale? Tried the whole Ebay thing, without luck. Not just gonna give it away like some people on there wanted.

nathalie,

I'll tell you what, I may cry right along with you. The images you have taken are some of my favorites on this site. It makes me almost want to cry not to see more for a while. And such a nice camera!

Best wishes for the speedy recovery of your camera.

You have my sympathies. I don't know what I'd do without my camera, even for a few days. Hope you get it back real soon.

Nathalie! So sorry this happened! I can't believe he told you to push it on against a table!! Yikes! You only did what he told you to do.. It can be repaired, I am sure, and you will be out there taking the fabulous photos you take again!

wow, what a support team you are all! I feel so much better! And the compliments I got on my pictures really made my day!

This morning my friend called from the store and told me that it takes up to 6 MONTHS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! to have it repaired by Nikon. Again, I almost died. She said that if they diagnose an IMPACT DAMAGE I will have to pay for the repairs (she had been told could be about 300$), if not, they would fix it under the warranty but she would replace it by a new one as soon as they would confirm it is not an impact damage. I was so devastated about the delay, she put me on hold and came back to say that if I agree to pay the repairs if Nikon decides it is an impact damage, she is replacing it right away with a new one instead of waiting their decision!!!!! What a friend! What do you I said? Of course I will pay (do I have any other choice!!!!)!! So TONIGHT she is bringing a brand new camera! Yes!!! I'm back! And the weather is so nice (it's been weeks of gray days), makes me want to shoot everything everywhere!!!

Well I'm so comforted to know I can rely on other photographers for those feelings because no one really understood my distress around me...they thought a camera is just a camera...!!

Thanks again and take care of your babies!!!!
