Ok -- DPC is really giving me a kick in the ego. Any normal self portraits I do end up in the 5s. But if you can't see who I am, then I'm in upper 6s and 7s. :)

This one really intrigued me. I don't do the funky shots very often, but I enjoy them immensely when doing them. Someday I'll actually do one when it's not specified in a challenge. (well... maybe... :)

I spent hours on 1x.com looking for funky portrait ideas. There were some incredibly wonderful things there.

These were three of my favorites on 1x:

marsh face surprised untitled

But after spending so much time looking, I ended up just experimenting.

Here are some of the outtakes:

Huge thanks to my son for spraying the window with water (and not getting the water on the camera that was standing next to him!!)

Thanks to the Yongnuo company for making a remote release that works through walls!

Mostly I'm floored by the votes, comments and favs. Huge thanks to all. I wish we'd have this type of challenge a couple of times a month. This is not a shot that would ever score a 7+ in a regular challenge. But it's this type of challenge that helps people experience and appreciate things outside of their comfort zone. I have learned so much because of the funky, weird, abstract challenges. While I don't do much of this type of photography, my appreciation of the images has grown exponentially. And I enjoy the excuse to experiment.

I think you got a bump from the freaks-n-geeks on this one. It might have been what carried you into ribbon territory. Congratulations!

Very artsy in that it very effectively captures the look and feel of sadness. What makes the imagery so potent is that many of us can connect with the emotion of sadness at one time or another in our lives and that is why it resonated very well. The blue hue tones of processing support and complement the overall feel of sadness - great details with the single eye and the clarity of drops of water. Congrats on the ribbon.

Instant FAV...This image isn't the question but rather the answer. From my eye to your eye...this one deserves BLUE!

Great, spooky, haunting, love the details of the water running down the glass, there seems to be a sadness in the eyes that really works well here

One of my favorites. I love how it looks almost like a painting. Sad expression, rain?, and the tones made it a pretty depressing self portrait. Still dig it.
