Thanx 4 all the comments

Looked up on the way home from the station and saw the moon ... thought "That's what I wanna shoot". This was taken from the roof of my downstairs neighbour. The lit window is from my flat. I liked having the one light on (just lucky that everyone else hadn't gotten home and turned their lights on) ... seemed to add something extra to the silhouttes and cast a tiny bit of light on my face. Contrail just happend to be there when I got out onto the roof and started shooting. Camera is on a mini tripod below the ledge I'm sitting on. Set the timer and ran around a few times in different poses (standing, sitting, holding the moon etc)

Had a lot of troubles adjusting levels (as comments have suggested). Main reason for the photo looking washed out was because my original (auto-levels with some manual adjustments) looked fine before submitting, but really dark after - you could hardly tell sky from the silhouttes. After trying a few times, I gave up and turned up the brightness and contrast which caused the moon to grow a fair bit.

Still not sure whether that's a star above my head. I thought it may have been a hot pixel, but tests afterwards have proved otherwise

Nice shot

A first glance very simple, but with hidden complexity and detail - just beautiful

Nice silhouette of the person, as well as the houses. The moon, maybe a little over exposed. I believe a filter could fix that up.

I like this picture and I'm sure it was a challenge technically.

Neat photo. Pretty nice composition.

I love the scene that this picture paints for the viewers imagination. Very imaginative use of the theme.

This shot may benefit from some levels adjustments to add more contrast, apart from that a good shot with lots of atmosphere.

This is really good. One of my faves.

Nice concept for this shot. Full moon too.

Nice idea, good composition. The moon is a little too bright, it dominates the picture too much. Would also be better w/out the jet trail.

I like this photo a lot and probably have it as on of my 5 favorite shots. Did you try putting some levels on this? I downloaded the phot and just did a simple auto level and cleared up the washed out look of the image. by doing that it got rid of that whitish cast on you blacks.

Simple rule I follow. Look at the blackest part of any photo and make that your baseline black. Meaning black as black ink, perfect, no tint or overcast. That will help set the contrast for a photo. Also, did you do a lot of sharpening or cropping, I seem to get a lot or speckling in this photo.

I like this photo a lot though and rated it so.

Very nice. Took a while to decide, but I like the looming angle of the houses. That one lit window was a great bit of luck. I'd like the person's silhouette a little sharper, but I know it's hard to focus in the dark like that. Nicely done.

Good shot. The only thing I'd have changed was a level adjustment to darken the foreground.

Nice shot.

Good Composition

I like this! Captivating!

Great composition. The yellow window, the bit of light on the face, the contrail, and the bit of orange sky are perfect. If the moon could be turned down a bit, this would be an absolutely perfect shot. Still, it's teriffic.

Interesting sillouette. Is he gazing at the moon, or "Her" window? Thought provoking. Could be a bit sharper.

This is fantastic and I hope you're getting high marks. The "noise" in the photo gives the sky a textured look almost like it is printed while the building have a painted look. Lots of good stuff in this photo that makes it art. Excellent colors, mood and interest. I can't wait to ask how you created this look.

Nice stop motion on that flea jumping off their head!

nice break from the cliche pictures, and nice composition

Clever composition............

the black isn't quite black...adjusting the levels in a Photoshop-like program might have helped. The composition is nice, but the two yellow lights are distracting. Couldn't you have asked your neighbor to turn off their lights for a second while you took a picture? ;-)

Very very cool composition. That jet trail makes the photo.
04/29/2002 01:51:00 PM
I realize it's tough to get a shot like this sharply focussed, especially with a digital camera. But that's just what this picture needs.

One thing I think you did well on this photo is the sky, followed by the moon or sun, as it were. I also like the light up in the house, with all of the other lights off, and the photo itself dark in nature. It's a very calming or relaxing picture, with just a touch of mystery from the house light, and a splash of light on the subject's face. However, although I think it looks good, I wonder if there is too much distraction by having the two light sources. Also, the airplane trail seems a bit of a distraction, as does the solitary star (?). It does urge you to look up, but with the way you have framed this picture so nicely, you don't need it. It seems excessive. The only other thing I felt was missing was the texture in the sky. I'm not quite sure why, though. It just feels like it is missing something. Overall, this is a fine submission.

Good photo. Is that white dot above his head a star? Little rebel.
04/29/2002 10:36:00 AM
very cool photo, although it seems a little washed out, and would have been really nice if the blacks were sharper.
04/29/2002 10:06:00 AM
This is a very nice photograph. I wish you had conjured a nice title to go along with it :) The jet contrail in the moonlight is really nice... as is the light in the window. A small addition of *contrast* may have added to the silhouetting effect on this shot... maybe a little reduction in brightness as well... Good job!
04/29/2002 09:02:00 AM
well posed
