i love the bokeh of the background lights in this shot. i have a similar shot of my wife's profile with the same type lights over her head, seemingly dancing. also with a 50mm 1.8. certainly a required lens, no matter your choice of C or N...
very nice job on this capture... |

Critique Club:
First of all, congratulations on your ribbon. About your image, all I can say it´s a fantastic pic. In my honest opinion, it´s a perfect exemple of how to use bokeh to get more impact in a picture. In this image, Bokeh appears as key element in your composition to create a fantastic and colored background. The background is perfect, cause it seems color lights are floated in the space.
I really like the colors and the reflections in this image. Special mention to the reflections in the light bulb. Furthermore, you did a perfect use of a black border.
There is only one thing that I would like to see different (not very important thing). I´d like to see it without the table where the light bulb is placed. I know it would be very difficult to put the light bulb in some place and don´t see it. If you get it, I think it would be more impacting thanks of the unity of the background by means of getting an unity background.
If you want to comment me anything about my comment, please don´t hesitate to contact me o PM me.
Just a well-deserved ribbon. Keep the good work.

This is by far my favourite shot of the series. I love the effect caused by the bulbs glass: truly interesting. The choice of a square crop with your subject centered is also very good. I'll be very surprised if this doesn't get a top-3 placing. |

A unique shot out of the bunch. The bright colors and shapes are great. Adding the lightbulb to distort and add texture to the 'dots' really makes this good. Nice job. |

This is very nice but you realize that this is bokeh overkill. Not to worry because you have manged to turn it into an abstract work of art. Lucky you. lol Bumping up. |

Whoa. If anyone ever needs a dictionary illustration of what bokeh is, this would be a good choice. A very compelling image. I'm drawn to it. The absolute black of the background makes me feel as though those light sources are floating in space. I'd love to have seen a setup where you could isolate the bulb without having to have a tabletop visible though. Very sweet entry. Should do well. |

I am really not sure about the bokeh in this one. It really is the subject and not the background, and by the definitions that I have been reading, it would be considered bad bokeh. That said, I really like this shot. It is very interesting and in excellent focus. 9 from me. (terje?) |

The short definition of Bokeh from KenRockwell.com, which I am using for voting on this challenge: "Bokeh describes the rendition of out-of-focus points of light." In spades! Is the subject enhanced by the bokeh of the background? Most certainly. And the effect on the bokeh within the bulb adds interest. Great shot. |

Technical masterpiece. Unbelievably pure, circular artefacts. Only possible nit I have is I'd like to see just a hint of fill bringing out detail on the bulb threads. Dynamite Bokeh. Really effective use of simple border also. |

now this is just plain cool. i love the vibrant colors--and even more so love the idea of viewing all the colored bulbs through a clear bulb. perhps this is because i have a huge bag full of colored lightbulbs that i used to use for challenges--so the irony is not lost on me, i dont know. ;) at any rate, beautiful composition and clarity as well. is it good bokeh? beats the heck out of me. i just know i like it! nicely done. |
