This is Gassi or "Gaz-Man" from the group Mercedes Club as The Thing from the Fantastic Four comics. It´s part of the Superhero series me, Henný and Eva Hrönn, are working on. Just click this link and it´ll take you to the whole series on Flickr.

Like I said earlier, Henný and Eva Hrönn did the makeup/bodypaint on this shot.

Used 5 lights for this one, although could as well have been four since the one lighting the backround doesn´t really matter since the smoke covers that area. This was one of the last shot´s taken in that session and I just didn´t bother turning it off as we wanted to end with shooting in smoke since it takes a little while to clear out the smoke. The other lights was one big softbox from my right, a big octobox on my left and then two striplight softboxes behind him for back/rimlighing and to light up the smoke.

As far as processing goes, there was not so much smoke as it is on the front of his legs so I "borrowed" some smoke from the corners and the side and posted over his legs and shorts. Other than that was just basic raw conversion, levels, curves and sharpened after resizing. The smoke was from a cheap smokemachine we bought at Toy´s ´r us and at first I didn´t like it being so blue so I was going to desaturate it but when I did that, I thought the blue smoke was cooler, fit´s the Fantastic Four much better and contrast nicely to the orange bodypaint.

i just recently bought a fog machine, tried something simliar to this, and used it during a photoshoot and i found it very very difficult keep the fog from making the room hazyafter a few fires of the fog machine. do you have any shots of your studio? i would like to see how big of a backdrop you own and stuff.

Snort! If you actually painted the lines on this gentleman, I hope it was water soluble! Nicely posed and I love the smoke. I just wish it'd been a bit more color neutral. But that's just a nit pic. Excellent image. Congrats.

I don't really know what to think of this photograph. What I mean to say is that it has no cenceptual and/or aesthetic appeal to me. But on the other hand it's technically well done and if presented in a fitting context it no doubt might be seen as an outstanding work. So, I'll hit 7 at the moment and later see if I'm be inclined to raise it.

wow that make up must have taken time! pity the elastic in the shorts is so obvious! it detracts from the out of this world feel.

Beautiful use of smoke to give this a great dramatic feel. This guy looks familiar... ...this scene/setup feels like Larus?

The body painting is just awesome too! -BB

Pretty cool looking. I like the smoke. A portrait of a wrestler, I'm assuming?

woaahoho thats sweet Larus, i bet its difficult getting the fog to stay off of one area and not having it completely encompassing the frame, and im assuming your wife did the make up, way cool, yall make a great pair

Ha ha. Hi Larus. As usual, great work. My constructively nit-picking criticisms are - his shorts just look slightly too much like boxer shorts, which doesn't quite fit his character, the bricks are too square around his belly button, and maybe too many thick lines obscuring his face. But hey, it's still fantastic work, and a great addition to your comic-book series.

Might this be a part of Larus super-hero project? I think so. Anyways its an excellent image well lit and the bodypaint art and makeup is superb.

Great image! I've been wanting to paint on somebody. This is clever and well-executed with the lighting, colors and smoke!

well this is certainly not something you see everyday on DCP. He has a LOT of muscles. I like your body painting, the lines that have been drawn are very clean and sharp and the mist/smoke enchances this. It could be my moniture but he does look a little orange, great imagination here, well done
