This was a very very last minute entry! When I got back from shooting it, I realized that there was a huge lens flare above me and the only way I could make it work besides a really short crop was to blow out the highlights enough to hide it. Oh well!
Here is the original to show you how it was setup and to see the flare/dust:

The clock was about 4 feet away and I was about 30 feet away from camera. Twine was taped to the back of the clock and tied to the ground with one hanging loose to help with the illusion.

Editing: Cropped, cloned out the dust, ramped up the curves, levels enough to hide the flare, desaturate, resized, USM, black border and export.

Thanks for the sweet score, all of your great comments and the Blue Ribbon! Ninja power!

justamistere: the clock diameter is probably 15 inches or so
Nobody: I know! I have NEVER cleaned it and I've had it for almost 5 years!
09/17/2008 11:00:48 AM
Congratulations!

Looking at the original in your notes, that has got to be the dirtiest sensor I have ever seen. Time to clean it for sure.
09/17/2008 10:32:10 AM
That's a great shot. I'm interested in more details to do something similar.
How big was the clock diameter? What zoom 28mm? I guess you mean't f/22 not 27?
09/17/2008 10:03:56 AM

09/16/2008 05:57:39 PM
Cool idea and well executed
09/15/2008 11:51:11 PM
LOVE it - I'm sure you wish there was spot-editing for this challenge just as much as most of us did - ;) 10! -- tho in spot-editing if you make a print out of this- i'd personally dodge and burn that rope a bit under the 'hands' and perhaps burn a little at the bottom of the clock -but of course that couldn't be done for the challenge and I know that ;) :-D BEAUTIFUL shapes (triangles everywhere!) ;)
09/15/2008 02:33:48 PM
Nice use of black and white. and I love the concept of pairing up 'immovable' with time as well as the literal representation we see!
09/15/2008 01:41:10 AM
That is a good concept.
09/14/2008 10:56:57 PM
Tension and struggle are nicely portrayed. Good one.

My favorite this week. Love the symbolism.
09/13/2008 11:03:10 PM
It's not a snapshot. I think in this challenge that immediately gets you the blue ribbon.
09/13/2008 01:34:11 PM
Fantastic.

Wow I really like this one. Good concept and well put together!
09/12/2008 06:12:20 PM
Not a fan of the overprocessing, but great idea.
09/12/2008 10:51:06 AM
I love the concept.
09/12/2008 09:01:15 AM

09/11/2008 05:40:05 PM
Looks great. I like the composition especially. Theres a real sense of the struggle.
09/11/2008 02:56:06 PM
Now, this "how'd they do that" will be interesting.
09/11/2008 02:07:02 PM
I love that !
09/11/2008 10:35:02 AM
I think time would be considered an unstoppable object as it's always moving forward. I like the photo though.
09/11/2008 09:37:12 AM
great idea, extra point for originality
09/11/2008 08:33:00 AM
i like this alot, well thought-out. bumping from 6 to 7.
09/11/2008 06:38:21 AM
I love this interpretation, absolutely fantastic. Love that clear, smooth negative space too.
09/11/2008 04:51:26 AM
Nice idea. I like the bold black tones in this shot.
09/11/2008 01:10:24 AM
Such an obvious choice for the front page!! Creative, outside of the box, well shot. What more could you ask for? Awesome work!
09/11/2008 12:53:55 AM
Great shot for this challenge.
09/11/2008 12:44:58 AM
oh... i like this job.
I had idea to make some shoot "trying pushing time back" :) But... i don't make it :/
09/11/2008 12:00:53 AM
I think this is one of the better shots however I would have liked to see feet and the bottom of the clock. but I am being picky there I still am going to vote it as the best one here....
09/10/2008 10:53:32 PM
I voted on this challenge for this one shot. Excellent photo and great take on the challenge.
09/10/2008 10:49:07 PM
Great symbolism.
09/10/2008 07:58:46 PM
Great idea and I like the way you tried to show the idea of moving time! Looks a bit surrealistic with the high contrast/high key look to this - Nice!

09/10/2008 05:12:45 PM
Perfect! This is what I was looking for in this challenge!
09/10/2008 02:21:57 PM
yes, very cool!
09/10/2008 02:06:26 PM
Don't know how you did it but it looks great.
09/10/2008 01:47:38 PM
Great idea. The crop on the left is a little too tight for me because it downplays the struggle a bit, in my opinion. Very good overall.
09/10/2008 01:19:25 PM
Wow, what a great shot. I love the fraying ropes. It adds the illusion of all the hard work put in to move this clock
09/10/2008 12:59:28 PM
another amazing abstract concept!
09/10/2008 12:13:04 PM
go go ninja power
09/10/2008 12:09:26 PM
Although 5:35 is about when I break out of work, time is not a burden and all is good ... well done!
09/10/2008 12:05:11 PM
go ninja power this is so anamzing
09/10/2008 11:15:50 AM

Great concept!
09/10/2008 09:18:59 AM
Very cool!! I like everyhting about it. (not voting yet)I am back to vote, this picture reminds me of a scene (i think) from mary poppins, I really like the negative space, and the comp so low to bottom, awesome image, my fav of the challenge, 10.
09/10/2008 08:24:32 AM
Yes! this is awesome. I wasn't crazy about the composition at first but the more I look at it the more it grows on me.
09/10/2008 08:09:32 AM
Great capture and depiction of the challenge. I would have preferred that the guy was not cropped partly out of the photo, and also the edge of the clock, but that is just me being really picky. Top Image!!
09/10/2008 07:35:09 AM
I don't know how you did that but the result is excellent.
09/10/2008 07:15:56 AM
Very creative. One of my ribbon picks.
09/10/2008 04:43:03 AM

09/10/2008 02:12:37 AM
Great shot! The B/W adds to the strength. Kudos for the idea. I would like to know where you found that clock:-)
09/10/2008 01:16:51 AM

09/10/2008 12:43:46 AM
Brilliant photo... by far the best in the challenge.
