Absolutely adorable. Dark background set this off. Only "hot" spot is on chair back, and it helps draw attention to his face. The bow tie is a great touch.

I like this, he looks so cute in that outfit, such a great contrast between what you expect and what you see.

03/15/2009 05:06:57 PM
Lovely shot but my eyes were drawn straight to the blemish on the left side of the vest.

Nice portrait. This will have to come back out at his high school graduation. Great soft light.
03/15/2009 07:25:18 AM
nice lighting, a tighter crop would be nice, not too big a fan with a black background n this case.7
03/15/2009 02:38:07 AM
This is really great work. Would like to see it with the highlights pumped up a little bit but still very clean portrait
03/15/2009 01:53:21 AM

Excellent study. 7

I wonder how many people said something about this being underexposed...

I don't see that at all. I see that the light is intentionally low. Light is a frequent metaphor for knowledge, so the light being low could easily be referring to the boy's early stage of learning development.

I could be wrong on the intent here, but it does look intentional.

Just for fun, I'm goin9 to give you a vote to help with that. :)
03/13/2009 09:57:39 PM
you caught his concentration expertly - nice work
03/13/2009 08:57:16 PM
great soft image- nice use of light.
(stain on his shirt?)
03/13/2009 08:13:53 PM
Oh... I really like the background fading to black with the adorable child so highlighted. What a wonderful memory of his writing skills. This will be gone in a moment! I'm so glad you captured it!

Nice shot..I like the emotions and the colors.
03/13/2009 10:50:13 AM
good mood
03/13/2009 09:34:05 AM
The stain on the vest is distracting.. the lighting is wonderful!
03/13/2009 07:35:26 AM
Lovely portrait. Hope he didn't had to pose too long. Nice sober use of the light.
03/13/2009 03:51:01 AM
Marvellous! The lighting is a little duller than I'd like but very engaging
03/13/2009 02:41:39 AM
Your centered composition works very well here. I would like to see just a little more light on the boy, especially his face.
03/13/2009 01:18:14 AM
Oh so little, nice lighting.
03/13/2009 12:19:18 AM
great softness and light - love the expression!
03/12/2009 05:56:43 PM
what a handsome little fellow, you've got great lighting on this
03/12/2009 05:43:56 PM
This image is very dark. Perhaps a bit of exposure and/or levels adjustment could brighten it up a bit.
03/12/2009 01:24:04 PM
My husband has a little suit so similar to that in a photo that was taken when he was 3. Some things are timeless.

Adorable little boy. I like the diagonal line created by the pen.

I stared at this for quite some time and just when I was about to score it, I noticed the stain on his vest. Bummer. That'll cost ya 3 points. ...just kidding. I'll pretend I didn't see it. :D
03/11/2009 11:40:23 PM
Serious little man. So cute.
03/11/2009 11:15:01 PM
Nice soft look to this shot. I might like to see a bit more contrast but this low contrast version really creates the soft mood I think.
03/11/2009 08:29:17 PM
like the lighting and balance of tones
03/11/2009 08:08:27 PM
Voted earlier coming back to leave comments now. The lighting on this is wonderful, the colors are excellent, and the scene sets up a story. I like the concentration on this little boy's face as he ever so neatly practices his letters. As much as he is concentrating hard, he also has a look that he would rather be outside and playing for there is a slight frown on his lips. So the fight for knowledge here, to me at least, is the struggle to stay motivated to finish...and *then* get the reward of playtime. He also appears so prime and proper with the vest and bow tie that I get the sense of being transported back to the Old West with Sunday School and wearing your sunday best. I tried to read what the page on the right hand side but I feel you will quite understand that I do not wish to pick up my monitor and turn it upside down to read it. I can see that he is clearly practicing writing letters on the lines (looks like the letter 'p').
03/11/2009 08:03:27 PM
Borders on being a little dark but I think that is OK. Maybe a slightly warmer tone? Fantastic otherwise- just small points. 9
03/11/2009 06:37:41 PM
I adore his little outfit! How cute is a little boy in bowtie and cuffs????? Just a little dark overall.
03/11/2009 05:52:26 PM
This guy will be a teachers dream student for years to come. :)
03/11/2009 03:18:39 PM
i like the composition and the light, but the title is a little confusing.
03/11/2009 12:36:31 PM
Perfect even in the imperfection, and a lovely story told..
03/11/2009 10:36:12 AM
I like the subdued lighting.
03/11/2009 08:46:22 AM
Seems a bit dark. A crop to bring him closer to the viewer may have been stronger.
03/11/2009 07:59:28 AM
This is ok. I dont really see anything different about it or that makes me think wow but nice lighting and he is cute!
03/11/2009 04:43:24 AM
Dressed up in his Sunday best. Lovely capture.
03/11/2009 04:39:40 AM
great portrait and lighting
03/11/2009 04:27:40 AM
Nice shot, I'm just wishing it were brighter. Lovely light on the subject though.
03/11/2009 03:55:48 AM
Perfect scene. Perfect light. Title fits well, especially if you meant to spel like that.
03/11/2009 12:57:34 AM
Really nice light, cute outfit. The plain black pen works visually, but I'd have put something older looking in his hand. Then again I collect foutain pens and my friends call me a pen snob :)
