-by robjamezComment by KiwiShotz: Mmmm. Congratulations, this is really really good. Everyone's expressions are interesting and sincere. No cheesy stuff (thank goodness). I would possibly have cropped just on his left ear to bring mom to the thirds line and looking into the image. Nevertheless, a high score from me. |

-by robjamezComment by melismatica: How odd that everyone looks rather sad and pensive in this photo. I like the composition quite a bit---a very classic triangle. I like the simplicity of the background.
The exposure seems a bit fuzzy around the boy, as if the shutter wasn't fast enough to capture a bit of wiggling. The skin tone on the boy and girl are a bit blown out.
It bothers me that mom's arm is not around the daughter. There is a wierd distance created visually between the mom and the daughter due to the black clothing blending in with the black background and an emotional distance created by the daughter's sad expression. The mother looks a bit irritated, her lips look rather pressed together. I'm only mentioning this because in evaluating this challenge I feel the emotional content is of equal importance to the technical content. I'm sure this is a very happy family. Not knowing the subjects I can only evaluate the photo.
I'm guessing the tension I'm seeing in this shot is just a reflection of the subjects' growing impatience with the photographic process. |

-by robjamezComment by mikala: wow. i'm really intrigued by this image. so much can be read into it and i think you made a great decision to leave it unnamed. i think i would have preferred mom to be wearing a lighter color too, to prevent her head from looking like it's floating. |

Death Marchby robjamezComment by olbol: Another great idea to which shallow dof is missaplied. Great lines. Reshoot and submit to health challenge! |

Death Marchby robjamezComment by soccerdad: My opinion is no better than anyone else's, but, fwiw: the shallow DOF constraint hurts this image. I think it could be a genuinely striking entry in something like patterns with a deep DOF and a slightly different crop. The background in the lower right needs a bit of work. 6 fior this challenge. |

Death Marchby robjamezComment by Koper: Very original, well done. Execution lack a bit. Focus a bit more to the front or way back, on the 1st 3rd or the last 3rd. And maybee move the camera up a bit and tilt it down a bit otherwise well done. |

Death Marchby robjamezComment by macrothing: 7 - Good use of shallow DOF. Symmetry looks very good and near perfect. Criticism; not much, maybe the focal point slightly more fore but your call. The 'base' seems to have very slight gamma issues but it could be the texture/fabric, minor anyway. Perhaps a slightly tighter crop on the left, not sure. |
