Another take on the apple shot. This is one is a very good shot with great lower light. Unfortunate for your great shot is that the other shot much like this pops quite a bit more. That being said this shot stands on its own and should get a good score. I hope that others vote it that way.

nice lighting, helps set the deceptive mood. maybe back out the cro so the hand isn't cut off and rotate alittle to straighten the eyes. just little things, I like the photo. :)

DOF and POV are great, but she needs to look more evil. The witch *always* looks evil, or at least sly. Though I suppose she'd have more success looking wholesome and innocent.

So some big problems... there was nothing to indicate that this was meant to be... a captured moment I guess we could call it. The sweat, dirt, sawdust, etc, are all way too subtle to know off hand what is going on. Something with him in action, like you said possibly with a tool would have done this shot wonders.

As it is now, there is no context and no way of knowing that this wasn't an image where you really went out and tried to get a proper portraite and just failed. (which is how it appears).

If you wanted to keep it close up perhaps he could be in action. Wiping sweat of his brow, taking a swig of refreshing water, etc.

The focus is really soft on the eyes and more in focus on his nose and his skin tone seems a bit off. I might have dulled down the green in the back a bit too.
