well it's a nice photo - very pretty.
as far as the driftwood goes, what if you masked the entire shoreline area ( grass, and rocks ) including the driftwood, and sort of dodged outward from the area you want to lighten most. would be easier to mask the larger are - than just the details of the wood.

i did a quick mask, quick edit

i also burned the foreground a tad to dull some of the clutter on the shore.

this is a good idea, but the whites seem a bit blown out, and the light seems pretty harsh. it also seems the position of the girls is kind of random.
