Riding the Fenceby karmatComment: Awesome! Great colors, perfect composition. The only complaint I have is about the compression artifacts in the top left corner and at the right border between light and dark blue. You use only 56k, so you could probable have avoided the artifacts with less compression. 8 |

It takes 3 to juggleby scottwilsonComment: Interesting silhouette, with the bottles shining through and the juggler dark. Vertical format with more of his legs might have worked better. |

Vus'musi with Mom Ndula and Aunt Umganiby dr rickComment: You did a good job of letting the grey of the elephants stand out against the grey of the background. Pity the little one seems a bit fuzzy. I also would have liked to see them a bit more close up, if possible. |

Three Transplantsby soupComment: You could have placed more emphasis on the 'three'-ishness of these flowers by having them all three in focus. |

Triple Crossby NatatorComment: Nice stopped action. Pity the cycles almost merge with the background, you should have taken an lower and maybe closer standpoint (probably not possible!) |

My Studioby goinskiingComment: Trumpet or horn? I like the B&W, gives a nice effect. The surroundings look a bit cluttered though, distracts from the mutes. |

Knobbly Tree - Duotoneby peeceeComment: I'm surprised this didn't end higher. I gave out six 9's, this was one of them. I especially liked the texture of the leaves against the sky. |

Attentionby TranquilComment: * Greetings from the Critique Club *
Technically, I think this is a very good photograph. The lighting is perfect to bring out all the detail in and around the eye while keeping the hair on the right side dark. Focus is excellent, all the details in and around the eye are very sharp. Composition is good, although it tends to look a bit unbalanced with the large light part on the left and the dark part on the right. Tighter cropping would have improved that.
On the emotional level, I don't find this a really very attractive photograph. The main reason for that is there's too much detail of the skin and freckles visible. Gives me a feeling of 'up real close and too personal'. I keep looking at this because it's technically good and all the details make it interesting, and I keep wanting to look away because I don't like to look at somebody else's skin from that close. Could be a personal thing, though.
Hope this is helpful. |
