The Horned Lizards are now protected species, and indeed, it seems they are disappearing.
When I was a little tyke, some 50 years ago these "Horny Toads" were very common throughout the desert southwest where I grew up.
Now it is rare to spot one of the little critters. I see perhaps, two or three a year where I live in New Mexico. Your photo is superb!
