The summer has started and children are playing around…by unguzovComment: This could have met the challenge if you had put more thought into your headline. As it is, it's just a funny snapshot. Something like: "New Statues at Hyde Park Attract Young Visitors" Try to think what the article accompanying it might be, or what story you are trying to tell. |

Goverment Tax Kills Off City Centre Shopping.by kevrobertsonComment: Maybe in a 1950 newspaper, why so grainy and high contrast? This could do with a bit more focus, and might even have done better in color. Even when taking a scene like this, it's important to think about your focal point, which right now is the bench at the bottom center. The tree midcenter would have been a better choice, since it would pull the eye to the whole image rather than down to the bottom. |

Policewoman Chases Down Robbery Suspectby bongoComment: Hmm, not sure is we'd actually see this one in a newspaper, but I guess it meets all the requirements. I would like a teensy bit more focus, right now it looks almost like you tool the Blur tool to it. |

Flooding Continuesby weavercComment: Good. Maybe a more specific headline? Adding the town name might give it a bit more impact. |

Busted!by BassieComment: Poor headline, bad composition, too dark, out of focus, lucky shot. Minimal basic editing could have improved this, and a decent headline (topical, specific, active) would have convinced me to rate it higher despite the quality issues. Crop out the guy's hand on the left, and maybe even the cop on the right, brighten and increase the contrast, see if you can sharpen at all, though you really should deal with that issue when you take the shot. |

Local man found dead after hit-and-runby animes2kComment: LUCKY. You got to a crime scene, but your composition is poor here. I would suggest either cropping the body out (the partial streetsign in the top corner is distracting and the feet are already cut off anyway) or next time choosing to move your focus to include only the cop and the body so both are fully visible. |
