Old walkway to a new pierby carotop111Comment: Really beautifully done this one. For me, one of the few to really stand out in this challenge and deserve a score higher than a 7.
Great job, it gets my 9. |

A New Spin On An Old Grooveby fotodudeComment: I like the way the CD is being 'played' like a record. Better take on the theme than the other CD vs. Records images I have seen in this challenge.
Unfortunately, it looks like you've suffered from camera shake as nothing seems to be in sharp focus. I think you'll get a lower score because of that and the fact that there are many similar images in the challenge. |

Out with the old, in with the new...MUSHROOM!by KarGirlComment: Unfortunately, the point of focus seems to be the grass and not the mushroom. I wish the mushroom on the right wasn't so close to the edge of the frame as it throws the whole composition off for me. |

Handsby crazyredwizardComment: Our son was born just three days ago so I am a sucker for this one right now.
If I was being picky I'd say that little thing on the baby's third finger distracts the hell out of me for some reason and that the point of focus seems to be a little too far back, but it is still a touching image.
Got a feeling some may not like the link to the challenge and tell you that Old & Young is not Old & New but as long as it is not another picture of phones, it's OK by me. |

It Still Goes Roundby TDCollinsComment: Too dark and the cassette is not in focus. Very similar to a number of other entries which might see it suffer.
The colours are a bit off on my monitor, there is a reddish cast to the whole image. I don't like the backdrop either, just looks like everything is sitting on a towel on the floor. Doesn't engage me emotionally in any way.
I think that when you are photographing inanimate objects, you really have to nail everything perfectly - composition, lighting, colours, texture, contrast - to induce that emotional response. If not it just looks like what it is - a cassette, record, 8-track, and CD sitting on a towel on the floor.
Have a look at some of the previous challenge winning entries of inanimate objects and try to figure out why they are so good. Compare them with what you were trying to achieve and see if you can understand where you went wrong. |

Windows from past to presentby joaquinComment: Good take on the challenge. I love the contrast in colour and texture between old and new.
It is a shame about those power lines, they really detract from the photo. I would have preferred the foreground to either be in total shadow or total light, but not half & half. |

1929 Fordby spreadcomComment: This one shows a great imagination and I love the idea. Rather than just another old phone sat next to new phone picture, this one has had some thougth behind it and is a great take on the challenge.
Unfortunately, the focus is not sharp enough which is going to lower your score I think. I give the concept an 8, but the execution a 6. |

Haircut Anyone?by NitinComment: I like the setup here but I'm not sure about the old & new. I mean, those clippers have been around for decades, it's not like they are a 21st century invention.
I would prefer that the scissors and comb were not cropped out on the left too. |

phone evolutionby speaseComment: One of the better 'old phone vs. new phone' shots, of which I've seen a considerable number in this challenge. I'm afraid it will suffer due to the number of similar takes on the theme.
Love the old phone here, it looks great and the lighting is spot on. |
