The Landscape of an Elephantby rmtm333Comment: Quite a few elephant pics in the challenge so far. The processing appears to be adding an element of abstractness which highlights the shapes and composition in this one. The curious shades of greens and oranges work nicely too to provide opposing corners... I can see why you chose this for your best. As I write this, it's been growing on me. An excellent job at bringing a rather medium picture into a new dimension. one of few tens so far. |

Playby mia67Comment: 66KB file size...
Why did I notice? Look at all the weird patterning in your noise/grain... those are JPG artifacts from overcompression.
mono/duo/tri... tone images are very low in information to begin with, so you don't usually need to compress them much. You were allowed 200KB.
Not really got anything to do with the pic or my vote, but just a heads up. |

Waiting For Lunchby gsalComment: Nice shot.. Seems like you might have gone a bit too far with the dodging of the eyes... |

Under the Seaby Jaded_HousewifeComment: Ooh, there's Dory and... I think I see NEMO! ;) great shot of the sharks. Be careful of your saturation. I think you might have pushed the blue and red channels a bit too much specifically. Note the full 256 value reds visible in almost all of the reds and all of the blue fish have smooth areas of full value blues as well. 7 |

Her Mother's Childby albc28Comment: I'm sure someone will point this out, but it looks to me as though you have front focused on this one... The eyes are a bit soft. I'm not including that in my vote as this pic isn't about focus.
I was actually a bit surprised when I saw the title indicating that this is a girl. I realize that you were going for thirds on the eyes and mouth, but the hairline and mouth are obscured so that the femininity is difficult to see.
Nicely done B&W conversion btw. |

Age of Enlightenmentby JutildaComment: My initial response was negative on this image... mostly because I could only see her eyes and the messyness in her hair in the web frame. 3 seconds later, it had grown on me quite a bit. The hair became natural and a complement to her youthful innocence. The fully bloomed rose counterpoints that both in significance and in color tone.
Honestly, I'd still have cropped this pic in to get rid of the bottom 1/6th and the top 1/5th. A rectangular crop with her mole on the bottom third, and her eyes on the top third would render this image significantly more stunning. Additional benefits would be the loss of some of the stronger pink tones, while retaining the gently rose tones in the BG. I hope I remember to come back to this one after the challenge. I can see why you picked it.
I'll give it a 9 for the 10 I see in it. |
