Could this have also worked the other way round (foreground out of focus)? As it is, I'd rate it higher if the star thing itself appeared imore sharply in focus. It's a good idea, though. 6.

Yes it is, but I don't think that "mostly blurry" is the point of this challenge. Have a look at the entry called "the seed". Cheers. 5.

P.S. I mean the all-green one, featuring a seed head & diagonal blades of grass (there's another one called "Seed". Cheers!

Pine Cone

Comment:
Back for a second look to bump up from 6 to 7. The whispy pine needles make a clever visual and focus bridge between the subject pine cone and the presumably snowy background scene. That's a nice touch. So 7. No ... it's even better than that; 8.

That's pretty good; wiithout the bokeh effect, the beautifully-fringed leaves would not have this impact. For example, if you'd shot against a perfectly plain dark "studio"-type background you'd still get the contrast against the moisture droplets, but you wouldn't get the striking natural feel you have achieved. 9.

Comment:
Well I'm not absolutely confident with the subject of this challenge, but I'm pretty sure this effort is exactly right; an out-of-focus background without which the actual subject would be diminished. So, the colours, the pattern and the emotional "feel" of the bokeh contribute much this image. Like good theatrical lighting (i.e. on stage in a theatre), this bokeh gives presence and mood to the performer. 9.

Hope this doesn't sound absurd, but I like the composition. Having said that, it's a clever entry. 7.

Well that's visually spectacular & pretty good for the challenge subject. There's some sort of spiderweb or thread near the bottom; -1 = 7

Simple and clever. Bokeh Boy looks suitably intense, bordering on demented. 7.
