Very careful use of Photoshop, I suspect, what with the ice cubes in the middle glass, the top one very like an island floating on water, with what looks suspiciously like the underside of an iceberg, and no drinks in the other glasses. If they are real glasses, then they must have hugely long stems, as there is no appearance of any glass bases in the shot. I like the warm tones in the refractions and stems, and the cool light and blue sky and sea beyond the island
I am darned sure it's not 'real', but it is very effective - I look forward to finding out how you did this - It's not clear to me at all
Good luck with the image | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 04/11/2006 03:42:23 PM | Twisted Lightby sfaliceComment: Well, it's a blinder!
I honestly can't tell what is happening here! obviously, there is a curved glass surface bending light, but what shape is it?
And what is the shape like a thorn coming out of the middle and going up to a sort of trumpet-shaped space or assembly? Is it a dark piece of glass, or what?
And the twisting of the image, and the bending of light apparently within the object - I can't tell if it some characteristic of the object, or something to do with the background. I suspect it of being a hand-made glass sculpture of some kind, but with the intense red and apparent yellow light showing to the right at the base of the photo, and the purple or violet reflections, and then the white continuatins of those reflections, the only way I could tell would be a 3D photo of the object. The name 'Twisted Light' is exactly descriptive of the image, and I wish you well with the picture | Photographer found comment helpful. |

I like also the twinkles on the twisted stem, (caused by refraction within the filter), and there is a rainbowing effect at the edge of the spot caused by refraction from the lens used to focus the white light onto the red background. All well controlled and lit! Nicely photographed, and well done!
Best of luck with the shot! | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 04/11/2006 03:22:52 PM | Simple Refractionby SamDoe1Comment: I think this picture speaks for itself. Very nice idea, well executed. The colour fringing shows the distortions in the glass, the refractions of imperfections, the rainbow fringing. Hope you do well with this shot | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 04/11/2006 03:14:14 PM | Starby ReM_FrComment: Now, I like this for all sorts of reasons. I think the choice of colours is very good, the placing of colours along the edges of the stars is cleverly done, it looks like it took ages to achieve. The image is sharp, and well defined.
I am not certain that it is completly refraction of light, but it's brilliant lighting. on the bottom middle where the shadow has produced a green line, there is what could perhaps be refraction, though I suspect it is two shadows from two different lights from the edge to the left, rather than a refraction, but the feeling is as of refraction through a prism, and it's a very nice shot. Well done, hope you do well. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 04/11/2006 03:08:47 PM | the loveby riderComment: Gosh! What an intense red, with a rose tinge to it. Most striking colour.
Personally, I would love to see a touch more detail in the glass and the lettering, but nevertheless, a nice image.
Good luck with your entry | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 04/11/2006 03:06:33 PM | What a Pretty Pitcher! What a Nice Refraction on You!by 777STANComment: Surprising refraction in waterjug! I would have expected it too distorted, but it has just reversed the image and somehow intensified the contrast
I suspect more contrast in the background would be even better, and even if the light was moved so that there was no light reflecting off the surface of the picture you would have an image with a startling result. It has given me the idea to try it myself. I wish you well with the image | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 04/11/2006 02:59:35 PM | 3 Tines 4by cornettcagComment: I like the enlargement of the fork, the cherry, and the mandarin slice by the curve of the glass. Nice colour contrast with the background. I somehow feel that there could have been more brightness contrast, but it would perhaps have distracted from the richness of the colour. I think you have judged the balance quite well
Good luck with the image | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 04/11/2006 02:56:28 PM | Stream of Lightby wavelengthComment: I live at the seaside, and often photograph on the beach, but this is better than I have been able to shoot. I think it seems to have a touch of sunset about it, and seem to see colour refractions from the light rainbowing the bent rocks under the water - very effective! I think some movement of the ripples has been caught, which drags the image of the rocks and extends them, and you have chosen just the right length of exposure.
Very nice image on all counts, and just a lovely level of contrast and juxtaposition of sharpnesses
Hope you do well | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 04/11/2006 02:52:36 PM | Still refractionsby kiwinessComment: I love this shot. So beautifully sharp and clear outlines of the containers, and an unusual lively blue, with a touch of lilac I cant tell if the colour was there, or if it is a coloured monochrome, but suspect it really was a colour shot. Very 'Advertising' shot quality. I am sure it will do well. I suspect if you take it again, with even more colours, it could be even more eye-catching, but the way the light has bent the lines of everything behind it shows well in this thoughtfully-composed and lit shot. quite professionally executed! | Photographer found comment helpful. |
