while I dont understand the title(even after reading) I am just going to give you a few suggestions on the photos merits. I dont include the title in my voting process, so I wont include it here.

while this is a good photo of the cathedral the colors just arent appealing at all. I think the use of oranges and reds wouldve been better and wouldve given this photo more of a real sunset feel. while the purple is "pretty" it just doesnt go with the building at any time of day and it just too unreal for voters. I think the color you chose was actually the downfall of this photo. I think everything else is perfect except the color.

Pretty Little Flower - Best of 2007

first of all let me say that you chose a wonderful flower! Even tho it isnt the same flower as the orginal one I think its "close enough" tho I dont think voters thought the same thing. Without knowing that you used an "acid filter" one would think that this had the wrong white balance. so my suggestion for using a filter is to either go all the way or dont go. you have to make the use of a filter so obvious here that voters will KNOW that it was used or they will vote you down because they got the wrong conclusion. after sitting here for about 20 minutes just looking at the flower I have finaly decided what it is about it that "felt" weird. I knew it was something about the center but just coudnt put my finger on it. Its the blur of the orange. the blur of the orange doesnt match the blur of the petals. This is from using such a small apeture. increasing your ISO and apeture will let the DOF widen and have a more evenly sharp photo. I notice in your notes that you did some cloneing. thats good but you left two imperfection on the petal int he bottom left of the photo. DPC likes perfection so keep that in mind when your editing. all in all I think you did a good job on this but it was such a competive challenge. keep up the great work.

Dont know why you requested a critique as this is a wonderful image and DPC thought so too. only things I see that might have made this 1st place is the blur of the skewers in the apple. I think they shouldve been in the same focus as the apple. The color BG (tho not distracting at all) wouldve been nice to see a blue or yellow to make you and the apple really jump out. and of course that tiny hot spot on the nose. I think you did an outstanding job! I really love the eyes! congrats on 3rd place!

Composition/Content: I think a tighter crop to just above the carpet wouldve helped this place higher.Cropping like this wouldve also made those wonderful eyes fall right into the 1/3 line which is exactly what DPC looks for.
Lighting: I think you needed a bit mmore light on the cats head which wouldve lightened his beautiful eyes and maybe helped make them POP.
Background: Either a burned black BG or just hanging a sheet/blanket behind him wouldve helped as the BG is quite distracting as is. It definately competes with the cat.
Camera Work/Technical: more light wouldve helped you have a faster shutter and you wouldnt have the noise thats there because you could have lowered the ISO.
Digital Processing: burn the bg out to get rid of the bright spots and then dodge the cat to help make him be seen wouldve been a bit better
My Opinion: You went with a hard photo to begin with but I think you did do it alot better than the orginal. If you dont have a noise removal program I would suggest this one: //www.imagenomic.com/download.aspx I use this one and highly recommend it (and its free). I love the light right on the cats face but I think it needs more. the cat does have beautiful eyes and I think bringing them out and making them the center piece of this image rather than the whole cat wouldve been better (just personal taste tho).
If you have any questions about anything I have said please contact me. ( I would love to borrow your edited version so I can show you what I mean by "bringing out the cats eyes" then explain to you what I did)

Composition/Content: are both done very well. just make sure the fingernails are spotless.
Lighting: A bit more light on the cross would make this better.
Background: the black shirt really makes the hands pop out at me. nicely done
Camera Work/Technical: I think using an apeture of F8 wouldve kept that one little hot spot on the finger from showing up. also if you had used more light you couldve increased the shutter speed. Digital Processing: Color tones look great and the image is clear.
My Opinion: I think this is a technically excellent photograph. I like the subject and the colors. I like the depth of the image. This image definately shows talent and technique. DPC likes bright well lit photos so keep this in mind if your going for the blue. congrats on getting in the top 10. pay attention to little minor details like lighting and the fingernails and you'll have the blue in no time!
